A., and the National Foundation for In fantile Paralysis are waging a winning war against polio was described today by C. B. Thomas, director of the Polk County 1952 March of Dimes. In Pouk County, as else where in the nation, he said, half the funds raised in last year’s campaign were retained by the chapter for the benefit of adults and children stricken by polio here and, in emergencies, to supplement the national epi demic aid fund. This direct help is given to anyone whose family cannot bear the full financial burden of polio without undue hardship, Mr. Thonias asserted. The other half is forwarded to National Headquarters, where it becomes the ammunition for the greatest war ever waged against a specific disease by a voluntary organization, - the director de clared. “Actually,” he said, “the 50-50 division of funds is a partnership of the American people in an undertaking which affects them all. “The half of the March of Dimes left here at home directly benefits our children and adults who have been or may be stricken by polio. The other half is used for three other all-importai^^ purposes: (1) a scientific attack upon the disease itself, (2) traiSr ing of professional polio experts and (3) financial assurance that no American community will lack the money to light an epi demic. Experience has proved that no city, town or village can stand alone against a major at tack of infantile paralysis. “When an epidemic breaks out,” he continued, “help must come from what we are accus tomed to calling ‘t'he outside.’ There is only one ‘outside.’ That is the epidemic aid fund of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis.” FOR RENT: 5-room apartment, furnished or unfurnished.
